Altarmwehr Quitzöbel

The oxbow weir is located in the north-east of Saxony-Anhalt and was built around 1936-1937 for water regulation and flood protection. The weir system consists of a double sweeping half-timbered gate as a weir closure and a barge lock. Both parts are separated by a massive centre pillar and bordered by two massive edge pillars.

Stahlwasserbau Hochwasserrückhaltebecken Niederpöbel

The river valleys of the Osterzgebirge were and are often affected by devastating floods - for example in 1897, 1958, 2002 and 2013. After the 2002 flood, a flood protection concept was drawn up for the Rote Weißeritz river basin. Among other things, this provides for the construction of a flood retention basin in the Pöbeltal valley.
