Bridge construction

The Lübeck lift bridge ensemble was put into operation around 1900. It consists of three bridges, two of which are movable. The railway lift bridge was used by the harbour railway and was permanently closed after an accident on the drive components in 2009.

The existing Kattwyk Bridge is a combined road and railway lift bridge over the Süderelbe and connects the districts of Wilhelmsburg and Moorburg. In order to be able to cope with future tasks in the Port of Hamburg, the Hamburg Port Authority began planning a replacement structure for railway traffic at the end of 2008. The existing Kattwyk Bridge is to be retained for road traffic.

The swing bridge in Malchow in Mecklenburg connects the old town, which is located on an island in Lake Malchow, with the neighbourhoods on the western shore of the lake. The bridge is the only hydraulic engineering structure in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern to be operated and maintained by a local authority. It is also a listed technical monument.

The replacement construction of the Rethe lift bridge is a railway and a road bascule bridge in the port of Hamburg. It crosses the Rethe at the mouth of the Reiherstieg and connects the Hohe Schaar harbour station with the facilities in Tollerort and Neuhof.

The Kienlesberg bridge is a steel bridge in Ulm, Baden-Württemberg. The 270-metre-long bridge was built as part of the construction of the new Ulm tram line 2 and opened in 2018. Inspired by the neighbouring heritage-listed Neutor Bridge, the bridge was built in a truss design.

The overall project was awarded the German Civil Engineering Prize 2020.

The bridge train running parallel to the existing Rügen dam consists of a total of six individual bridge structures with individual lengths of between 317 m and 584 m. The centrepiece of the 4,100 m long crossing is the 2,831 m long bridge over the Strelasund, Germany's longest road bridge.

The Leibis/Lichte dam is used to supply drinking water in eastern Thuringia. The spillway is located over the back of the wall with a spillway width of 20 metres, a ski jump spillway at the foot of the wall and a joint stilling basin with the bottom outlets. A road bridge with a span of 2 x 10.45 metres crosses the spillway opening.

The construction of three new road bridges as movable structures was planned for the development and expansion of the water tourism infrastructure. The Liebenwalde bascule bridge forms the entrance to the "Langer Trödel", an approximately 10 km long waterway between Liebenwalde harbour and Zerpenschleuse.
