Reservoir Malter - extension completed

Einweihung Talsperre Malter

The Malter Dam is of great importance for flood protection in Saxony, especially that of Freital and the state capital Dresden. During the extreme flood of 2002, there was a signifi cant overload, which is why work began on extending the flood spillway in 2019.

This was achieved by deepening the collection channel, building a new type of dividing structure and a weir channel with a stilling basin. To optimize construction costs and time for this 21-million-Euro project, special concretes were used along with other techniques.

The highly complex construction measures were ceremoniously declared complete on August 17, 2023, in the presence of the responsible employees of Tractebel Hydroprojekt GmbH, Dr. Holger Haufe and Dipl.-Ing. Dominik Fiedler, by Ms. Gisela Reetz (State Secretary in the Ministry of Energy, Climate Protection, Environment and Agriculture) and Mr. Eckehard Bielitz (Managing Director of the Saxony State Reservoir Administration).
