In mid-May 2021, Tractebel Hydroprojekt was commissioned by Stadtwerke München (SWM) to carry out the detailed design and tendering for the construction of the new Großhesselohe weir on the Isar River south of Munich. For the construction phase, Tractebel Hydroprojekt was also commissioned with the local construction supervision.

The planning includes the re-construction of the weir on the Isar with three new weir spans and a fish ladder as well as the re-construction of the so-called separating weir between the Isar and the Werkkanal. The redesign of the weir will significantly improve the flood protection function of the facility, as the number of weir spans will be reduced and the central piers will be designed in such a way that they will be overtopped during larger floods. The new weir gate systems (torsion-actuated weir gate and air-actuated weir gate) increase the operational safety of the plant and thus facilitate the minimum water discharge required in each case. The tender documents for the commissioned Lot 3 "Civil Engineering" are to be prepared by the beginning of next year. Construction of the new plant is expected to take place from September 2022 to November 2023.
