Rehabilitation of Zeulenroda dam

Talsperre Zeulenroda

The Zeulenroda dam in Thuringia was built between 1968 and 1975. The approx. 35 metre high rockfill dam with an inclined clay lining dams the Weida. The structure is now due for renovation.

The total storage capacity is approx. 32 million m³. As a result of existing damage, the operator, Thüringer Fernwasserversorgung (TFW), intends to replace the closure wall of the HWE tunnel, to repair the concrete of the stilling basin edge walls and to repair the outlet channel.

The aim is to repair the damage in order to fully restore and ensure long-term structural safety, serviceability and durability. THP's Dresden division has already been providing damage mapping and structural condition assessment services since 2019 and has now been commissioned by the TFW to provide further planning services.
