In 2014, the city of Meuselwitz commissioned Tractebel Hydroprojekt GmbH (THP) with planning services for flood protection in the Zipsendorf and Geschwister-Scholl-Straße area. In April 2018, the construction implementation of the flood protection measures planned by THP began. In July 2019, the main work of the project was successfully completed.
On July 5, 2019, Lars Schaarschmidt (THP), District Councillor Uwe Melzer, Mayor Udo Pick, and Construction Manager Olaf Pilz (Krause & Co.) solemnly cut the ribbon over the new Schnauder Bridge. With this, the main work on flood protection in Zipsendorf came to a dignified conclusion.
The construction work was carried out by the working group Krause & Co. Hoch-, Tief- und Anlagenbau GmbH from Neukirchen/Erzgebirge and Reif Baugesellschaft mbH & Co. KG from Schkeuditz. During the realization, THP was responsible for the local construction supervision, the construction supervision and the ecological construction supervision. Between the railway embankment and the Geschwister-Scholl-Straße, flood protection walls were erected on both sides of the Schnauder, which are intended to prevent the Schnauder from spreading to the HQ100. For this purpose, spundplanks were introduced over a total length of 550 m and connecting walls to the railway embankment and to the road were built. In order to compensate for the effects of the HWS walls on the water flow during floods, the drainage profile of the Schnauder was extended on one side.
The road bridge in the Geschwister-Scholl-Straße was raised by 1.0 m. In the future, the HQ100 can flow off to the bridge's lower edge with a freeboard of 30 cm. The bridge was given a new superstructure, the existing abutments were raised and the road was raised with a short ramp.
For the discharge of large floodwaters from approx. HQ50, a flood trough with overflow threshold was built in the branch to the Schnauder. In addition, supply lines were relocated, a road passage in the Geschwister-Scholl-Straße was enlarged and the connected drainage ditch was upgraded.
In order to prevent the protected areas in Zipsendorf from being flooded over the municipal sewer network during heavy rains and simultaneous flooding, the existing dwell-storage channel DN 1200 has been extended according to planning. About 170 m of reinforced concrete pipes DN 1500 were installed. The existing upper relief structure was replaced by an outlet structure located at the lower end of the storage channel. With three built-in check valves DN 900, the sewer network can also be relieved in the future with HQ100. In addition, a throttle shaft was installed in an existing transport line to secure the backlog level of subsequent line sections on the factory premises of bluechip Computer AG. The implementation of the EU-funded flood protection measure on the Schnauder on behalf of the city of Meuselwitz was also important for the district of Altenburger Land. The district was able to dispense with the implementation of local flood protection measures for the state regular and media school "Geschwister Scholl".
