The Altarmwehr Quitzöbel is located in the northeast of Saxony-Anhalt and is part of the Wehrgruppe Quitzöbel, which consists of a total of four fortifications. The Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration owns two fortifications, the Altarmwehr and the Durchstichwehr.
The Weir Group Quitzöbel protects the Havel lowland from Elbe floods, serves to cap flood peaks of the Elbe, regulates the water level of the lower Havel and enables a low-water heightening of the Elbe. The Altarmwehr (Oxbow Weir) was built from 1935 to 1937. From north to south it consists of the 3.60 m to 8.00 m wide weir pillar A1, the 25.00 m wide weir field, the 3.85 m wide central pillar A2, the 5.30 m wide and 22.80 m long barge lock as well as the 3.77 m to 5.00 m wide lock pillar A3. The pillars A2 and A3 form a trough cross-section with the sole of the barge lock. North of the plant is the company building. Part of the call for tenders is the basic repair of the Altarmwehr. In addition to the weir, the lock and the company building are also affected by the basic repair. The main construction services include the following:
- Dismantle, reassemble and reassemble the weir protector (approx. 175 t)
- Approx. 450 m³ of concrete, reinforced and unreinforced, break off and reinstall
- Construction of machine houses made of masonry and reinforced concrete
- Upgrading and installation of the existing lock upper gates as well as new construction of the associated drive bridge
- Upgrading or partial new construction and installation of inspection closures
- Dismantling 10,000 m³ of soil material from the dams
- Rebuilding and rebuilding of a company building and of communications and electrical engineering
On 12.06.2018 Tractebel Hydroprojekt GmbH received the order from the Waterways Building Office Magdeburg for construction and production supervision, the planning examination as well as the construction contract support. Construction is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2021.
