From 7 to 8 March 2019, the traditional Dresden Hydraulic Engineering Colloquium took place in the International Congress Center Dresden. The Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Technical Hydromechanics at the Technical University of Dresden was able to welcome more than 420 participants from Germany and abroad with the kind support of the Society of Sponsors of the Hubert Angels Institute, the DWA and the BWK.
The event with the theme "Complex planning tasks in hydraulic engineering and their solutions" was once again an important meeting place for the hydraulic engineering scene this year. In the lecture part with 49 presentations in 12 sessions, Tractebel Hydroprojekt GmbH was represented in the topic block "Major projects in dam construction" with a lecture on the topic "Malter dam – replacement of valves in diversion tunnels under complex boundary conditions", in which Dr. Haufe (Dresden) informed about details of this demanding steel hydraulic engineering project. Mr. Oettinghaus (Munich) presented another lecture on "BIM in hydropower plant planning – digital construction with building information modelling" in the topic block "Digitisation of complex planning tasks". Dr. Mödinger of Tractebel Engineering (formerly Lahmeyer International) reported on "Challenges and difficulties in the project planning and development of the hydropower plant Bumbuna II in Sierra Leone".
The contributions to the presentations were published in the conference proceedings (Dresdner Wasserbauliche Mitteilungen No. 62). During the breaks, our exhibition stand was again a well-attended meeting point, where interested conference participants were able to take a virtual tour through the hydropower plant project Gemeinschaftskraftwerk Inn (Austria) using VR technology for the first time.
The next Dresden Hydraulic Engineering Colloquium will take place in March 2020.
