It is certainly one of the most picturesque sites we are currently working on: the paper weir in Erfurt, right next to the historic Dreibrunnbad.

As part of the city's flood protection measures, the old weir is currently being demolished down to the lateral abutments and the stilling basin and replaced by a new construction consisting of three weir sections and a fish ladder integrated into the side. At the same time, the riverbed above the weir is being deepened over a length of approx. 300 metres.

In February 2022, the first construction phase began on the right bank of the river, which includes the construction of a new bank wall in front of the Dreibrunnbad, the demolition of the weir bridge and the old weir gates, as well as the construction of the first weir field and the fish ladder on the right bank. Following on from this, the installation of the lift gate with attached fish belly flap is planned for summer 2024. From March 2024, the second construction phase on the left bank of the river has started. The upper part of the back-anchored facing shell of the old abutment and the construction-period back-anchoring of the sealing sheet pile wall have already been constructed. The next step is the further demolition work at planning depth and the subsequent concreting of the two remaining weir spans, followed by the bridge superstructure and the installation of the two lifting gates. Due to the presence of beavers in the headwater area, it was necessary to wait until July before starting the watercourse development so as not to disturb the animals while they were rearing their young. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2025.
